A Simple Hack for High Blood Sugar
High blood sugar or hyperglycemia results from a problem with insulin - the body is either not making enough or it cant use the insulin properly.
Untreated high blood sugar can damaged nerves, blood vessels, tissues and organs
Damage to blood vessels can increase risk of heart attack and stroke
Damage to nerves can lead to eye damage, kidney damage, and non healing wounds.
Symptoms of High Blood Sugar:
-increased thirst
-frequent need to urinate
-fatigue
-blurred vision
-unintentional weight loss
-recurrent infections
American Diabetes Association did a study in 2013 that found three 15 min chunks of post meal moderate walking significantly improved 24 hours glycemic control in older people at risk for impaired glucose tolerance.
These post meal walks were significantly more effective at lowering glucose compared to one 45 min walk.
The muscle contractions connected with short walks were immediately effective in blunting the elevations in post meal blood sugar
A 2022 study in Sports Medicine Journal reviewed the effects of interrupting prolonged sitting with frequent short bouts of standing and light intensity walking on cardiometabolic health markers.
It found that for the obese participants, interrupting prolonged sitting with standing significantly reduced post meal glucose levels.
While light intensity walking was shown to significantly reduce post meal glucose and insulin compared to continued sitting.
