5 Activities to Reduce the Risk of Dementia and Alzheimer’s

The New England Journal of Medicine published a study in 2003 where they observed over 400 participants between the ages of 75-85 to assess if any leisure activities had any association with the reduced risk of dementia and Alzheimer’s.

They observed the subjects over the span of 21 years and found there were a total of 5 leisure activities, 4 cognitive and 1 physical that were associated with the reduced risk of dementia and Alzheimer’s.

Cognitive:

Playing musical instruments

Playing board games

Reading

Crossword puzzles

Physical:

Dancing

With our modern industrialized world it becomes less of a practice to actively engage our minds and our bodies (on their own without reliance on technology).

For the sake of our cognitive health lets always remember to keep our minds + bodies moving.
